Part of OrneLink’s remit is to facilitate social and linguistic exchange between members. Sir Nicholas Jackson Bt at Bagnoles de l'Orne

Nicholas Jackson at Bagnoles-Château (Bagnoles de l'Orne – 61140)

On Sunday 25 April at 5pm in the church of Sainte Madeleine, Bagnoles-Château Nicholas Jackson will play EARLY SPANISH & ENGLISH MUSIC. To highlight the very special character of the organ, he will give the first performance of his own Suite pour un Orgue Classique Français which he has dedicated to Jean-Claude Duval, the titular organist of the church.

Sir Nicholas Jackson Bt was born in 1934 in London. Educated at Radley, Wadham College Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music, he later studied with George Malcolm and Gustav Leonhardt. He was organist of two of London's most famous churches – St James's Piccadilly and St Lawrence Jewry – before becoming Organist and Master of the Choristers at St David’s Cathedral.

He made his debut as a harpsichordist in 1964 at the Wigmore Hall playing Harpsichord Concertos by Bach with his own Chamber Orchestra The Concertante of London, and has often performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He is known internationally as an organ recitalist, harpsichordist and composer. With the Concertante, he plays each year at a Bach Festival at the Monastery of Santes Creus in Cataluña and tours extensively throughout Spain

As a composer, Nicholas Jackson had an initial success with his Mass for a Saint's Day. His music is written in a modern-romantic idiom, unashamedly admitting to the influences of Langlais, Maurice Duruflé and Messiaen.
