Join a language club!

Part of OrneLink’s remit is to facilitate social and linguistic exchange between members. Many expat members of the network would like to improve their French; but lessons can be costly, inconvenient and hard to stick at. There are also many French members who would love the opportunity to practice or improve their English.

Launch of the Alençon Language Club

Last weekend OrneLink held its first Language Club. 25 people from the Alençon area participated, a mix of French and Anglophone of all ages... speaking all different levels of French and English. See the photo gallery…

For the first hour people split into revolving groups of three or four to introduce themselves and get to know one another. At half-time, drinks were served and biscuits and cakes which members had brought with them were passed round. During the second hour, the group split into two teams and competed in a game of Taboo (describing a word without using the three banned words on the card). The afternoon proved a great success and a second meeting will be organised soon. People are welcome to host a club at their own house or to offer to organise activities. If you would like to join the Alençon club, click here! For a list of all the clubs, click here!

OrneLink at the Races

130 members of the network were welcomed to the OrneLink tent yesterday at the Courses du Pin (Hippodrome de la Bergerie).

We were able to appreciate the magnificent site from our position next to the track, where we also had an excellent view of the paddock, the grandstands and the finish line. The beautiful weather was the icing on the cake!

Seven races were run during the afternoon. Pacifick, horse number 4, won the OrneLink - Haras du Pin Cup (congratulations to those who backed the winner!). OrneLink gave a trophy and a hamper of local produce to the winner, which were presented by Maître Mussat (Councillor for Exmes, who represented President Alain Lambert) and Franck Le Mestre, Director of the Pin National Stud.

Our thanks also to Mandragore the magician, and of course the Société des Courses du Pin for inviting us.

We hope that you all had a wonderful afternoon, and we look forward to seeing you at the next event.

OrneLink portraits

OrneLink Language Taskforce!

Do you have an hour or more to spare during the week? Do you have a passion for languages; do you enjoy communicating in English?

The French school year will be starting at the beginning of September, and OrneLink is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out during English lessons in their local collèges (11 to 16 year olds). You will be taking part in activities that get children speaking the language in natural situations and helping them master English pronunciation!

OrneLink will help match your location with the most convenient collège and make the first contact on your behalf. After that you’ll have an English-speaking contact at the school. We can work out flexible routines, so you don’t necessarily need to be available on the same day of every week. And if you can only help out on a couple of occassions, that's fine too.

If you’re interested in joining the OrneLink Language Taskforce, please fill out the questionnaire. Thank you!
