Part of OrneLink’s remit is to facilitate social and linguistic exchange between members. Many expat members of the network would like to improve their French; but lessons can be costly, inconvenient and hard to stick at. There are also many French members who would love the opportunity to practice or improve their English.

Orne Quiz

At the last OrneLink party we held a quiz about the Orne. We’ve put the quiz online, so if you missed the party, or if you fancy trying again, here’s your chance to test out your local knowledge! (You need to login to take the quiz.)

The first 5 people with a score over 75% will get a pack of 10 beautiful postcards "Couleurs de l'Orne" by photographer Stéphane Perera.

Good luck!

Part of OrneLink’s remit is to facilitate social and linguistic exchange between members. Many expat members of the network would like to improve their French; but lessons can be costly, inconvenient and hard to stick at. There are also many French members who would love the opportunity to practice or improve their English.

With this in mind, the OrneLink team decided to start up some local language clubs, the first of which was organised in Alençon. The first get-together proved a great success, so we have rolled-out the concept across the department.

The clubs are open to English and French speakers alike, and during regular get-togethers you will have the opportunity to practice your French and help others to learn English, or vice versa!

You will now find on the website a club for every main town in the Orne. To join a club, simply log in the the site and click the ‘join this club’ button. Once you have joined a club you will receive alerts whenever someone organises a meeting.

You can organise a meeting yourself, or suggest an activity or theme... it’s up to you!

See the list of clubs here, and don’t hesitate to pass the information on to friends who might be interested.

OrneLink Party

On Saturday 30th October, OrneLink held its fourth get-together in Alençon at the Hôtel du département. Members from across the Orne came together once more for an evening of fun and good cheer. Guests were treated to the original concept of whisky and cheese testing. Julian Hutchings is a whisky expert and introduced the guests to three very special single malts which he matched with local cheeses (Camembert, Pont Leveque and Livarot). Our chef, Laurent Hageaux, prepared delicious cups of chestnut mousse and battered squash. Aurélie Lecorps from the association Passeurs des Réves, entertained the children with stories and amazing musical instruments.

During the second half of the party we held a quiz. Everyone had been given a team number on arrival, and at this point they all got together in teams to answer a variety of questions about the Orne. Team 12 were the ultimate winners, scoring 15 out of 18!

Soline Roux took portraits of those present which you can see in the photo gallery. Don’t forget to tag anyone you recognise in the photos!

Our thanks also to Charlotte Dubois (piano) and Yuna Léon (violin), who delighted us with their traditional Celtic compositions.
