Part of OrneLink’s remit is to facilitate social and linguistic exchange between members. Many expat members of the network would like to improve their French; but lessons can be costly, inconvenient and hard to stick at. There are also many French members who would love the opportunity to practice or improve their English.

OrneLink is an English-language network run by Orne Council (Conseil départemental de l’Orne), and is the only departmental anglo-french network in France.

Around 3,000 English-speaking expatriates are estimated to be living in the Orne. The British, certainly, but also the Irish, the Dutch, Americans, Australians, New Zealanders… all of whom have chosen to settle in this beautiful corner of Lower Normandy.

Founded in July 2009 by Alain Lambert, President of Orne Council, the OrneLink network works to bring together these expatriates as well as those interested French inhabitants of the department. There are no criteria for joining OrneLink; it is open to any English-speaking residents in (or near) the Orne, to those who are planning on moving here in the near future and to French people who are interested in linguistic or cultural exchange, people who organise town twinning, language teachers, business people who are interested in operating abroad, students… We currently have around 1,500 members: from all walks of life and all four corners of the globe.

OrneLink’s mission is to engage expatriates in the social, political and economic development of the Orne, so that we can shape the future together. OrneLink is here to help you get involved in local politics or non-profit organisations, learn French, make friends and get advice, start up a business or find a job, network, understand the services provided by the council, unravel troublesome red tape…

We hold regular, themed events where you can meet up with other members of OrneLink (expatriates as well as French people), our heads of department and representatives from our partner organisations. Don’t hesitate to tell us if you have any other ideas for events or services we could organise as part of OrneLink.

You can join OrneLink by registering online. You will be automatically added to our email group, and receive information about our activities and events.

Don't forget to check regularly with The Exchange, the perfect place to find out about groups, events, classes and business opportunities in the Orne.

Before joining, you might like to read our terms of service.

We look forward to hearing from you.
